Passback is Back!May 02, 2008Last year, we sent out a plea to coaches attending the Strawberry Festival Soccer Invitational, and the response was overwhelming. We can only hope for a similar response this year.
Once again, the Strawberry Festival Soccer Invitational will be collecting used soccer equipment for Passback, an organization that distributes soccer equipment to those in need. Last year’s Passback collection was a huge success. We collected more than 400 pairs of cleats, 300 soccer balls, and a wide assortment of jerseys, shinguards and other gear. Children in Managua, Nicaragua, received the gear and are now playing organized soccer—with teams, goals and uniforms—for the very first time. What a great feeling—to know we’ve made a difference in the lives of children less fortunate than ourselves, and to know they are having fun playing the game we love! We sincerely thank every one of you who participated.
This year, we are again asking for your help. Collected items will be distributed to children in the U.S. and around the world. Any type of equipment would be appreciated, including soccer balls, cleats, shinguards, water bottles, jerseys, shorts, socks, and bags. The only thing we ask is that you keep in mind that there is a difference between “used” equipment and “no longer usable” equipment. The equipment can be dropped off at registration Friday night or put it in any of the red bins labeled “Passback” which will be located throughout the parks all weekend.
We ask that you tell your players about this project and ask them to bring their old gear to the tournament. Please feel free to copy this letter to hand out to help explain exactly what the project is or print out
this flyer. We hope you and your team are as excited as we are to have the opportunity to share our beautiful game! Good luck and we’ll see you at the tournament!

ParkingMay 01, 2008No matter what tournament you attend, the parking is always an issue. Or so it seems. Like every other tournament in the country, parking is our sore spot. We play on city fields and we're required to follow city ordinance on the subject. Our volunteers are doing there best. Please budget 15 minutes to park your car and walk to the field on which your child will be playing. It probably won't take that long, but if you add that time to your schedule, everyone's anxiety about missing the game will be greatly reduced and we will all have fewer stressful conversations.
Thanks and have a great tournament.

Registration NotesMay 01, 2008Registration Process:
Bring the following forms to registration*:
1. Player pass for each participating player
2. Your team’s official (state sanctioned) roster
3. Liability release signed by the parent of every participating player
4. If your team does not normally compete in Ohio South – you will need to bring a travel permit from your state association.
5. If you are bringing guest players, you will need to bring the guest player form.
Items 2, 3, 4, 5 and 5 can be e-mailed or faxed before the tournament. You must bring the player passes to registration Friday evening. We cannot complete the registration process without physically checking these cards against both the roster and the liability release.
The checklist on the front page of the web site indicates that you must have your ‘state association’ forms. This is items 2 and 3 above.
*Registration is at Troy Memorial Stadium on May 16th between 6:00 and 9:00 PM. Map to Troy Memorial Stadium:

Official WelcomeApril 29, 2008We're really pleased to have your team participating this year. We're working hard to make certain you enjoy your experience both on and off the field. We have a lot of exciting things going on including photographs of your players, videos of your team, as well as the traditional t-shirts, sleeveless t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts and hoodies. For those of you spending the night in local hotels and motels we are working with a local carnival so that your players and parents have some entertainment Saturday evening.
While we like to think that we provide a great tournament experience, what we think really sets us apart from other tournaments is our community support. As part of our outreach program we are again supporting a sportsmanship award in all of the preliminary matches. We are supporting the USYSA Passback program through your donations. We are also supporting the Special Olympics program through our 4v4 tournament held during registration Friday evening.
Over the next three weeks we'll try to keep you informed of everything that's going on at the tournament. We'll provide information on how you can order apparal, photographs and videos. We will let you know more about our outreach programs as well.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns please let us know by contacting us through the web site.
Good luck,
David Pappas

DiversionsApril 01, 2008As much as we'd like to keep you all on site both Saturday and Sunday, we understand you might need to relax and enjoy yourselves in a nice quiet atmosphere.
This year we are fortunate to have a great carnival for you and your players. While we'd love to tell you that we organized this special for all of you, the St. Patrick's Festival is in fact a long standing event in Troy Ohio.

4 v 4 Tournament for Special OlympicsMarch 28, 2008Certainly one of the things we are proudest of is our association with the Special Olympics. In
Miami County, the Special Olympics organization provides opportunities for participants to play soccer. We can't think of a better cause and are proud to support that effort.
We are now in the fifth year of supporting this worthwhile cause by sponsoring a 4v4 tournament Friday night during registration. It's all in fun. If you're a team manager (but not the trainer or coach) please consider putting a team together with your team trainer or coach and five others. If you're a coach or trainer and have always wanted to show your players how the game is played, this a great opportunity. If you have players you'd like to get out on the field and see what it really takes to play the game - this is for you.
It's for a good cause and everyone is guaranteed to have a great time. Follow this
link to register your team today.
UPDATE: TO ENSURE WE HAVE ENOUGH FIELDS FOR THE TEAMS, WE NEED EVERYONE TO NOTIFY US BY MAY 10TH IF YOU WILL BE FIELDING A TEAM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
